Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen was “gone” before being resuscitated after suffering a cardiac arrest, the team’s doctor said in a news conference Sunday, according to Sky Sports.
“How close were we to losing him? I don’t know, but we got him back after one defib, so that’s quite fast,” the doctor said.
Eriksen is in stable condition after being taken to a Copenhagen hospital on Saturday after he collapsed on the field during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland.
The 29-year-old even shared a message with his teammates after the horrifying incident. He spoke to Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand and asked how his teammates were doing, which Hjulmand said was “typical Christian.”
The game between Denmark and Finland was suspended just before halftime following the incident and was resumed later Saturday, resulting in a 1-0 victory for the Finns.
