Scott Boras is done taking shots at the Mets — for now.
The agent praised new owner Steve Cohen, new general manager Jared Porter, as well as their new catcher, James McCann, during a Zoom call Tuesday.
“It’s nice to have an ownership with big apples,’’ Boras said of Cohen, who has promised to use his resources to improve the franchise after buying it from the Wilpons, Boras’ frequent targets.
As for McCann, Boras said, “They didn’t let anybody eat their lunch. They went out and got a Big Mac.”
And Boras also had kind words for Porter, who was named general manager this week.
“They didn’t go out and get the Hamburglar, but they got themselves a porterhouse,” Boras said.
With the signing of McCann for four years and $40 million and right-hander Trevor May for two years and $15.5 million, Boras said “the Mets are now shopping in the organic produce aisle.”
It’s a far cry from some of Boras’ comments about the Mets in the past, when he famously criticized their lack of spending, especially in the wake of the Bernie Madoff scandal. Over the years, Boras called out the Mets for shopping for free agents “in the freezer section” and the “fruit and nuts aisle.”
Team president Sandy Alderson, as he starts his second tenure in Queens, said the Mets have been in the “gourmet aisle” this offseason. George Springer and Trevor Bauer are still there.
