A couple of people on the sets of a movie he was shooting for in Hyderabad tested positive for COVID-19.
Actor Rajnikanth was admitted to a corporate hospital in Hyderabad on Friday morning after his blood pressure showed severe fluctuations.
The 70-year-old actor is in the city for shooting of the Tamil movie Annaatthe for the last 10-days and had isolated himself after a few members of his unit tested positive for COVID-19. He was brought to Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills around 11 am.
An Apollo Hospitals release issued in the afternoon said: “Mr. Rajnikanth has been admitted in the hospital today in the morning. He was shooting for a move in Hyderabad since the last 10 days. Couple of people on the sets had tested positive for COVID-19. Mr. Rajnikanth was tested on December 22 for COVID-19 and he was negative. Since then he isolated himself was monitored closely.”
No COVID symptoms
The hospital release further said that though he did not have any symptoms of COVID-19, his Blood Pressure showed severe fluctuations and needed further evaluation for which he has been admitted to the hospital. He will be investigated and monitored closely in the hospital till his BP settles down before being discharged. Apart from fluctuating BP and exhaustion he does not have any other symptoms and is hemodynamically stable, the release added.
Sources in the Hospital told The Hindu that Rajnikanth was accompanied by his daughter Aishwarya Dhanush. Soon after getting admitted to the hospital, a team of specialist doctors conducted a barrage of tests on the superstar. Rajnikanth is put up in a special room and is under round the clock monitoring by specialists, sources said adding that he was doing fine.
In Hyderabad for shooting
The shooting of Annaatthe, being produced by Kalanithi Maran under his Sun Pictures banner, has been postponed after four crew members tested COVID-19 positive.
“Superstar Rajinikanth and other crew members have tested negative,” Sun Pictures said through a message on its official twitter page. According to the tweet put out two days ago, during routine testing at the Annaatthe shoot, four crew members have tested positive for Covid-19. To ensure utmost safety Annaatthe shooting has been postponed, it said.
Last week, Rajinikanth and his daughter took a chartered flight from Chennai to Hyderabad for the shoot. Directed by Siruthai Siva, major portions of the film are being shot at the Ramoji Rao Film City in Hyderabad. Almost 80% of the shooting was completed before the lockdown and rest was being shot here by duly following the COVID-19 protocol.
