The Integrated Transport Center of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (ITC) in Abu Dhabi has urged the owners of vehicles registered in the country who were not registered in the Darb traffic toll system, to create an account in the system and activate it and register the vehicles and activate the tariff system by Saturday, January 2, 2021, failing which they may have to face fines for using the toll gates.
The centre indicated that the rate of registration in the Darb system witnessed a remarkable acceleration during the past days, through the website of the traffic toll system www.darb.itc.gov.ae or through the Darb application for smartphones, pointing out that the procedures for creating accounts and registering vehicles are easy to complete in a short period of time, including filling the balance of the financial portfolio.
The ITC revealed that the number of vehicle owners who registered electronically in the Darb traffic toll system, creating and activating their accounts, has reached about 185,000 users, while about 15,000 companies and institutions have taken the same procedure.
Toll gate fees
The value of the registration fee for a vehicle in the Darb system is Dh100 per vehicle, of which Dh50 will be kept as a balance in the user’s account, according to ITC.
The fees will be calculated through four gates located on the bridges leading to Abu Dhabi city – Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Sheikh Khalifa Bridge, Al Maqtaa Bridge and Mussafah Bridge – while tariffs will be applied at a rate of Dh4 for each time of crossing the toll gate during peak times from Saturday to Thursday from 7-9 am and in the evening from 5-7 pm. The maximum ceiling for daily toll fees on individual vehicles is Dh16 per vehicle.
The ITC indicated that no fees will be calculated outside peak times, Fridays and public holidays and that the fees will be deducted automatically from the balance of the user’s account, which is prepaid through an electronic payment wallet that indicates the vehicle’s registration number. There will be no need to install a toll card on the vehicle’s windshield.
Fines for violating toll gate rules
The maximum ceiling for the monthly fees on individual vehicles should not exceed Dh200 for the first vehicle, Dh150 for the second vehicle, and Dh100 for each additional vehicle. The classification of vehicles depends on the individual’s arrangement of his vehicles in the system, and if one of the vehicles is exempted, the monthly ceiling will be applied to the remaining vehicles. As for companies, the regular tariff fees will apply to them, but the higher ceiling for the daily or monthly fees is not applicable for them.
The ITC has also approved more than 8,000 requests for exemption from the eligible categories of tariff fees, including those from senior citizens, retired citizens, families with limited incomes, citizens, and people of determination.
Any vehicle violating the Darb rules will be subject to a fine payment of Dh400 for a vehicle not registered in the traffic toll system. The fine will calculated for each traffic after the second time it passes the toll gate. After the end of the grace period, a fine of Dh50 will be levied if the balance is insufficient for vehicles that bear number plates that are not registered in Abu Dhabi. The grace period is five working days from the date of passing of a toll gate without sufficient balance.
A violation of Dh10,000 will also be calculated in the event of tampering with the vehicle’s license plate for the purpose of evading the payment of toll fees and Dh10,000 in the event of damage to any of the electronic payment devices or toll gates.
