Nurse though, as the array of lineup combinations last night would suggest, is pretty much wide open to trying anything these days and at some point Len got the green light from distance.
He took full advantage of that Thursday night.
“He made some big shots for us tonight and I’m just glad he goes out there and competes, he looks like he’s getting more comfortable,” Nurse said of Len. “Certainly gutsy to take those, I guess a lot of guts to take the first one and it goes in starts feeling good and he’s backpeddling into the third one, I think. He was feeling it, for sure.”
Nurse dug deep into his bag of options on this night trying both Terence Davis and Yuta Watanabe early on in the first half as he tries to find that combination off the bench that can bring him some consistency on both ends of the floor.
Through a half he was still searching and because of that rode his starters along with Chris Boucher pretty hard in that second half.
The one consistent throughout this tough start for the Raptors has been the play of Kyle Lowry and that didn’t change as the team finally got into the win column.
Lowry, who earlier in the week emphasized the importance of getting off the schneid as soon as possible, was in Lowry mode meaning he wasn’t going to let the Raptors lose a fourth in a row regardless of who was or wasn’t in the lineup.
Lowry, with an equally concerted effort from backcourt mate Fred VanVleet, finished the night with 20 points, many of them the timely scores when his team needed him most.
