CJAD cut its Quebec City reporter position in 2015.
Unlike their counterparts at CTV, reporters in CJAD’s newsroom weren’t unionized.
Because of the job cuts, CTV’s late anchors will now be tasked with reading top-of-the-hour newscasts on the radio between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., Carrière said. CTV reporters, meanwhile, will be charged with producing radio content on top of their regular television, website and social media contributions.
“Our members are stunned,” Carrière said in a telephone interview. “We know the media industry has been hit very hard, yet despite all of the cutbacks, people have managed to continue delivering the goods. Not only are jobs being eliminated today, but the remaining employees are being asked to do even more work. Something’s not right.”
