Calgary police arrested a woman Saturday after she allegedly tried to steal two cars stopped at red lights.
Now, the search is on for the victims of the attempted carjackings to gain more information about the incidents.
Officers were called to the scene of the first attempted carjacking at 14 Avenue west of 1st Street S.E. around 1:10 p.m., where a woman attempted to carjack another woman driving a black Honda CRV while stopped at a red light, police said in a news release.
“The offender gained entry into the front passenger side of the vehicle and attempted to grab the keys from the driver,” police said.
“The motorist was able to fight off the offender and flee to safety on foot with their car keys.”
The suspect fled the scene because she was unable to drive the car without keys, police said.
A similar incident was reported about an hour later, when police were called to Macleod Trail and 25 Avenue S.E. after a witness reported seeing a woman trying to force her way into three occupied cars stopped for a red light.

One car was a blue Volkswagen Jetta, whose driver managed to flee before the suspect gained entry to the car. The suspect was unable to access any of the other vehicles, according to police, and no one is thought to have been injured in any of the incidents.
Police found the suspect shortly afterwards at the Erlton/Stampede CTrain station and arrested her on an unrelated charge. She remains in custody. Police did not release her name as she has not yet been formally charged.
Investigators hope to speak to the drivers of the cars involved to gather evidence related to the attempted carjackings.
Those with information are asked to call the police non-emergency line at 403-266-1234, or leave a tip anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Drivers should keep their car doors locked at all times, even when driving, police said. They also advised those approached by a stranger trying to gain entry to their vehicle to drive away and call police when it is safe to do so.
